THE GEOMETRIC FORM OF KUNTUNKANTAN AS A GUIDE TO QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COGNITIVE PROCESSES

Kuntunkantan can be understood in term of the properties demonstrated by its form and the cognitive processes exercised in relation to those properties. Those cognitive processes deal first with defining the most basic feature of the design, which is the circle and its constituent properties. The second consists in measuring the various constituents of the circle so as to arrive at their numerical values. The third is modifying the from of the circle so as to indicate further properties it may demonstrate that are not visible in terms of its basic or unmodified form.

The fifth process is that of relating these processes of description and measurement to cognitive operations that go beyond the circle but which might use the circle and the processes required to understand it as a template. The description and measurement of the geometric form of Kuntunkantan are quantitative operations while the extrapolations made through adapting these qualitative processes to critical and integrative thinking are qualitative activities.
